Unassuming Character: Where do you pray?

Story

After his release from prison, Mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unusual characters. Sylvester Stallone’s first leading role in a television series. Dwight “The General” Manfredi: I really don’t go to church. The opening credits show various photographic and painted vistas and landmarks of Oklahoma inserted into the landscape of New York City: A statue of the Sioux Indian chief “Touch the Clouds” wearing a war bonnet and bone breastplate inserted on the Brooklyn Bridge.

I’m glad someone showed him how to use an Uber; it was funny while it lasted

I watched this out of curiosity, without any great expectations, I was just surprised to see Stallone in a TV series. You can feel the tension in the scenes, it also feels pretty realistic as far as the plot requires. I wouldn’t say it’s humorous, but there are a few funny scenes because Dwight (Stallone) is released from a 25-year prison sentence and isn’t fully integrated into the way the world works now; so I suppose the abrupt transition for us will create some interesting problems for him later on. It’s a pretty clever script, but not in an obnoxiously funny way, which is a good sign.

Of course, Stallone features heavily, but the rest of the cast seems pretty good too

The show literally feels like they just threw gangsters written for an early 90s movie into 2022, which makes for a good mix of humor and violence. I thought it was just going to be a throwaway show like some of Stallone’s more recent movies that rely mostly on his name and performances, but Taylor Sheridan does a good job here, writing a script worthy of Stallone’s performances. I think it’s going to be fun to watch macho Stallone build a criminal empire from nothing in the middle of nowhere Tulsa. I love how it has that western feel at times, even though it’s still mafia.

If it continues like this, that’s great, if it gets better, that’s fantastic

I think the show could end up flying under the radar and then making a splash later when people ask how they didn’t find out about it sooner because I didn’t see that much advertising from Paramount. I didn’t have high expectations, but if the first episode is anything to go by, this could be really entertaining. I’ll add a review after more episodes are released and update if anything drastically changes about the show.
