Story
World War II nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall mysteriously travels back in time to Scotland in 1743. There, he meets a dashing Highland warrior and becomes embroiled in an epic rebellion. Moore (developer of the television series), his team decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English. This maintained the first-person narrative, showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic. This idea came from producer David Brown, who said he saw something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternative film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart.
In some episodes, the characters say “OK”
An American term that only came into use in the 19th century. The theme song changes from season to season to reflect the events of the plot. In the first half of the second season (which takes place in France), some of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of the second season (which is mostly about preparing for war), a militaristic drumbeat is included in the opening theme. Tribal drums are added in Season 3, as most of the season takes place in the West Indies.

Season 4 adds bluegrass fiddle and banjos, and some of the lyrics are sung in a southern accent, as most of the season takes place in America. He starred in Outlander: An Epic Adaptation (2015). I am proud and honored to be one of the original seven Ladies of Lallybroch and to be associated with one of the very first global groups dedicated to Diana Gabaldon and books. For decades, we have been excited by the idea of film adaptations of books, flirting with our imaginations and hopes. And here it is. Every detail is brilliant – the script, the costumes, the sets and yes, the actors. The series is a visual companion to the books and is a real blessing.

Fidelity to our beloved characters and story is ensured by Diana’s continuous involvement in the creative process. He protects his story and thus his fans – who are legion and legends at the same time. Caitriona Balfe is indeed Claire, as is Sam Heughan Jamie. Thanks to Ron Moore, Maril Davis and the whole crew (Terry for the amazing costumes) who gave us our Outlander…
