Story
Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, lives out the last days of her life in 1970s Paris as she comes to terms with her identity and life. Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Larraín discuss how they connected to the moving true story of world-famous opera singer Maria Callas. The third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s Lady with Heels trilogy of female-led biopics, following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).

Maria is a solid musical biography
A great lead performance by Angelina Jolie holds the film together very well and I admire how much she has dedicated herself to the role, especially the operatic singing. The plot is a little confusing and the pacing is a little awkward, but I still think the film is entertaining enough to enjoy and is also educational about this period and opera in general. It is a beautifully shot and directed film.

I loved the editing and the black and white photos are beautiful. I think this is a solid Pablo Larrain film with a potential Oscar-winning performance from Angelina Jolie. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
