Mid-1990s, New York. Patty, Angela, Emma and Nikki are high school seniors and best friends preparing for life after graduation. Their dreams for the future are very different: Angela wants to be a poet, Emma and Nikki are going to college, and Patty is a young mother looking for stability in her children’s lives, but the four brilliant young women are unwaveringly loyal to each other. to each other in a way that only teenagers can be. Their lives are completely turned upside down when Nikki unexpectedly commits suicide after being sexually assaulted. Grief-stricken, angry and forced to return to their everyday lives without a satisfying outlet for their feelings, the girls must come to a new understanding of the patriarchal world they live in.
