Katie, a freelance video editor in desperate need of work, receives a well-paid offer from an anonymous employer to edit a mysterious and strange video. Running out of money and facing eviction, Katie happily accepts the job. The video shows people being tortured and even killed on camera – in reality, it is just an elaborately staged fantasy. But when this first job leads to even more lucrative contracts and more disturbingly realistic films about smells, Katie’s life begins to fall apart. Strange figures in her apartment, horrific nightmares that keep her awake, and a mysterious illness that plagues her cat. It is only when Katie decides to quit her job for good that she learns how cruel her anonymous employer really is and how brutally she tries to get out of the contract.
