Story

Armando, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of crossing boundaries with his best friend in elementary school.

The debut feature of Halfdan Ullman Tønder, grandson of Ingmar Bergman and Liv Ullman, dissects the 21st century education and training system in part allegorical and part naturalistic, as well as a " unfortunate incident" between two 6-year-old boys.

Renate Reinsve is the eccentric mother of the alleged perpetrator of the incident, Armand, and as she is investigated by her son’s teacher, the school administration and the other boy’s parents, the film slowly falls into the abyss of relationships.

Ullman Tønder’s purpose and position are strong, as is his artistic expression, which is noticeably inspired by the work of his grandfather and perhaps to some extent Kubrick

And while the narrative itself feels bumpy at times and the film unevenly edited, Armand is in many ways a return and homage to pure cinema that should be applauded.
