On the 12th of August 2024, RAINS, with invaluable support from AXIS, successfully hosted a dynamic celebration of International Youth Day in the Savelugu Municipality. This year’s theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” emphasized the vital role of technology in fostering sustainable development.

The event’s primary goals were to celebrate the achievements of young people in development and to empower them to take active roles in enhancing their lives and communities. International Youth Day serves as a global platform to amplify youth voices, acknowledge their contributions, and inspire them to harness their potential for positive change.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of Madam Catherine Mariama Sulemana, a former  official of  the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) who was also the chairperson for the occasion. In her keynote address, Madam Catherine encouraged the youth to be adaptable and to leverage digital tools for creating sustainable opportunities. Her inspiring message highlighted the transformative power of technology when used with purpose.

The event featured an engaging exhibition showcasing a range of skills and talents. Members of the Chamber of Women in Construction; a body of women who have artisanry skills in various disciplines in construction, displayed their expertise in tile laying and electrical board production, demonstrating their technical skills and craftsmanship. Additionally, youth from Kpachelo, a community in the  Nanton District of the Northern Region who are beneficiaries of RAINS’ skills training programs, showcased their abilities in satellite installation, demonstrating  the practical skills they have gained.

The celebration was further enriched by the participation of Madam Lydia Aseye Vondee, Acting Director of the Commission on Human  Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ)  for Savelugu Municipal, and Ms. Theodora Quaye, the Head of Programmes and Partnerships at RAINS. Their involvement underscored our commitment to empowering youth through education, health, sanitation, and skill development. This collaboration highlights our collective responsibility in fostering youth development and creating pathways for their growth.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from youth, students, and persons living with disabilities from the Savelugu Municipality. Their vibrant engagement contributed to the event’s success, creating a dynamic and inclusive atmosphere. The energy and passion of the attendees were a testament to the impact of such initiatives in inspiring, mobilizing and empowering young people.

The International Youth Day 2024 celebration in Savelugu was not just a milestone event; it was a powerful reminder of the potential in harnessing technology and skills for sustainable development. It showcased the crucial role of youth in shaping a better future and emphasized the need for ongoing support and empowerment.

As the event concluded, the sense of optimism and commitment to a brighter future was palpable. This celebration marks a significant step in recognizing youth achievements and reinforcing their role in sustainable development, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future initiatives.
