In the early 20th century, the Dutton family faced new challenges, including western expansion, prohibition, and the Great Depression. Although America’s Great Depression began in 1929, its early beginnings were in Montana. It broke out in Montana in 1918, nearly 10 years before the rest of the country. While the rest of America was thriving, Montana was struggling. Many farmers suffered from drought and a decline in demand for agricultural products due to the end of the “Great War” (also known as World War I from 1914 to 1918). As a result, Montana farmers were unable to repay their war loans, leading to widespread bank failures throughout the state. Between 1921 and 1925, half of Montana’s farmers lost their land. By 1925, 70,000 of the 82,000 settlers had left Montana. Also, 200 banks in Montana failed. The drought not only affected crops, but also locusts and cattle that died from the infection. It felt different but similar after Yellowstone… I really enjoyed this and although I need to see more, I have a feeling that this might be better (more of a challenge after Yellowstone!) BUT. BUT. BUT… It finally seems to be getting going, the subplots are merging… And then it’s over – obviously this was meant for a second season – BUT – if it doesn’t happen, it’s just a waste of time because the story didn’t even end at the end of the first season. And there’s currently no announcement or schedule for a second season… This is really infuriating! It’s like going to a great restaurant and they only serve you the side dishes, no main course!!! What the hell…Come on producers…hands off!!!!
